Why Choose Rubber for Rapid Prototyping? |

Today's product designers have a variety of prototyping processes available to
them. Some still rely on traditional manufacturing methods, while others use sophisticated
technologies that have been improved upon over the years. The objective is to
quickly determine which process or technology is best suited for your unique application.
Traditional rapid prototyping processes that use thermoplastics or polycarbonates,
i.e. Stereolithography (SLA), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) or Selective Laser
Sintering (SLS) are great for testing form, but many times these processes are
no substitute for testing with real rubber compounds that will actually be used
in production.

It's no longer just the product's design that matters, but more the ownership
of the design's application with respect to how it affects your entire organization.
The engineering department cannot do it alone, and must be backed by an executive
team that actively promotes continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives
from initial conception right through to finished product. The following are a
few tips for speeding up product development:
Process innovation and collaboration between engineering, manufacturing and procurement
are essential to speeding up new product development, minimizing idle time, lowering
production cycle times and maintaining a cost efficient inventory. Minimizing
design flaws from the prototype stage, and ensuring they are fixed before moving on to full scale production
is one component. Another is having a clear understanding of what those design
revisions mean for both manufacturing and procurement.
Product Lifecycle Management, for example, is a principle whose goal is... |

We are very excited to announce the launch of our new blog, featuring monthly
tips, best practices and new ideas on important business issues relevant to manufacturing
design engineers.
The goal of the Vicone Blog is to create a spark that ignites a dynamic, interconnected
community - where ideas and experiences can be shared to solve the problems and
design challenges we all encounter from the conceptual phase right through to
testing and analysis.
We look forward to hearing from you,
The Vicone Team
